En effet, son tombeau duquel coule une huile (“la manne”) attire des pèlerins toujours plus nombreux. Lorsque les turcs envahissent la ville de Myre au XIème siècle, les reliques de saint Nicolas sont transférées à Bari, dans le Sud de l’Italie. C’est ainsi que le culte de saint Nicolas s’étend à l’Occident.
